40 Magic Words That Always Bring Results

Yesterday, whilst catching up on my unread emails, I came across a real gem from one of my favorite marketing mentors, Drayton Bird. If you haven’t signed up to receive his special blend of marketing and advertising wisdom, humor, and humility, stop right now and pop on over to his website to sign up for his free (yet priceless) emails: http://www.draytonbird.com/

In this nearly-missed email I received from Drayton, he relates a story about how his brilliant partner Gerald had shown him some small, crumpled old paper – with 40 short random words typed upon it, and one special punctuation character.

Gerald explained to Drayton that the note was in such terrible condition because it had been sat upon his desk, always in plain sight, for years and years. It contained the 40 magic words which never failed to improve response in his ads.

Said Drayton to me in the email,

“Can you believe that just knowing the right words can make a lot more money?
I actually tested some against each other in my first job as a creative director back in 1962.

As you can see, I used two in the line that got you reading.”

Adding…

“I wanted to know which words were the most powerful. The truth is I never found out. Just that they all work.

But what I did discover was that adding those words always increased response to my ads.”

40 Magic Marketing Words Revealed

Since the point of this post was to show how the simple things can often be the best things, and the most commonly overlooked, I simply won’t drone on in this post. I’ll just give you a graphic I promptly made for myself to post above my desk. It contains those exact same 40 Magic Words That Make Money which Gerald and Drayton have long put their well-earned trust in.

You might post this above your desk too if you like, so it’s always in plain view – plus then it won’t get so crumpled up like Gerald’s! (I did ask permission to share these magic words, of course, and both Gerald and Drayton said it was ok to share with you!)

So Enjoy and Prosper!

Online, you post content to blogs, yours or others. To forums. To social media platforms. You do podcasts or guest podcasts. All targeted to the places your ideal prospect is most likely to see it.

Each social media platform has its own dynamic. Some used mostly by older women. Some, younger folks. For example, if you wanted to connect with 20 year old men, posting on Facebook may not be your best option. You’d likely have better luck with TikTok.

As promised in the previous post, here are 50+ Places where you can cross paths with and meet your ideal prospect. Places where you can pierce the prospects Bubble of Preoccupation. Focus on using the ones best suited to your ideal prospect. Automate content distribution whenever possible.

“People will do anything for those who encourage their dreams, justify their failures, allay their fears, confirm their suspicions, and help them throw rocks at their enemies.” -Blair Warren-
